working under the supervision of experienced staff.
There are specific position
descriptions listed below,
and a
volunteer application.
The hotline advocate position require a
commitment
of at least six months. The Fairness volunteer or office support
volunteer positions are both short and long-term opportunities. If
a position you are interested in is currently filled at this time,
please check back at a later date, as openings may become available.
Position Descriptions:
-
Fairness for Prisoners'
Families Volunteer: The
Center’s program, Fairness for
Prisoners' Families, has a need
for many volunteers. The
program is a membership-based
grassroots program that works to
mobilize the friends and
families of those who are in
prison. A Fairness volunteer
can assist with increasing
membership through
phone-banking, outreach in the
community, and canvassing
neighborhoods to inform people
about the program. Fairness
volunteers are also needed to
assist with mailings to the
membership, returning phone
calls, and general office
assistance. Opportunities for
both long-term and short-term
volunteers available.
-
Hotline Advocate: The
Center receives hundreds of
calls from those in prisons and
jails and their family members
each month. The hotline
advocate helps answer and return
calls to those seeking
information about the work of
the Center, and available legal
resources in the state.
Training and six month
commitment required.
-
Office Support:
Volunteers are always needed for
assistance with a variety of
administrative jobs around our
office, including data entry,
filing, copying, phone support,
word processing, and other
clerical needs. Opportunities
for both long-term and
short-term volunteers available.
|
The Center has a limited budget and
staff, and volunteers are able to make a huge difference in the
effectiveness of the work of the Center. We expect volunteers to
be committed, to work hard, to have fun, and to learn a great deal.
